Historical Commission

Meets quarterly at 5pm ~ Third Tuesday of January, April, July, and October city_hall_postcard

Purpose:

The purpose of the Marine City Historical Commission is to serve the City within the historical district set out herein as a historic preservation and restoration advisory Commission for the purpose of:

  • Safeguarding the heritage of the City, by preserving a district in the City which reflects elements of its cultural, social, economic, political, and architectural history;
  • Promoting, stabilizing and improving property in the district;
  • Fostering civic beauty and pride;
  • Strengthening the local economy;
  • Promoting the use of Historical Districts for the education, pleasure and welfare of the citizens of the City;
  • Preserving and safeguarding the political and architectural history and natural environments; and
  • Encouraging new buildings and development, which will be harmonious with the existing historic buildings and neighborhoods but will not necessarily be of the same architectural style. The purpose being to develop the Historic District as a vital area in which each succeeding generation may build with the quality and sensitivity of past generations.

Library Board

Purpose:

The library board’s purpose is to act as good will ambassadors and advocates for the library. They are responsible for keeping the city informed on matters concerning the library building. They also act as a liaison between the librarian and the city. They serve in an advisory capacity only and have no direct say in matters concerning library policy as set by the St. Clair County library board. Meets quarterly on the second Monday of January, April, July, and October at 7pm.

Zoning Board of Appeals

Purpose:

To regulate and restrict the location and use of buildings, structures and land for trade, industry, residence and for public and semipublic or other specified uses; and to regulate and limit the height and bulk of buildings and other structures; to regulate and to determine the size of yards, courts and open spaces; to regulate and limit the density of population, and for said purposes to divide the City into districts and establishing the boundaries thereof providing for changes in the regulations, restrictions and boundaries of the districts, defining certain terms used herein; providing for enforcement, establishing a Board of Appeals, imposing penalties for violation. Meets First Wednesday at 7 pm
